Blue Jays' top two hitting prospects go yard
Davis, Nay homer to lead Class A Lansing to victory
Outfielder D.J. Davis and third baseman Mitch Nay, the Blue Jays' top two hitting prospects, both homered to help lead Class A Lansing to an 11-4 victory at Bowling Green on Monday.
Davis, the Blue Jays' No. 5 prospect on MLB.com, went 2-for-5 with two runs and a walk. Nay, their No. 6 prospect, finished the game 3-for-5 with a walk and four RBIs. Shortstop Dawel Lugo, the club's No. 9 prospect, added a game-high four hits.
Right-hander Alberto Tirado, the Blue Jays' No. 7 prospect, started the game for Lansing. He allowed one run on one hit in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters and walked five. In 26 2/3 innings this season, he has a 2.70 ERA and a 28-to-26 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Davis, Nay, Tirado and Lugo are all part of a large group of prospects who played together in the Appalachian League last year and moved up to Lansing this season. While the adjustment to full-season ball hasn't been easy for all of them -- Davis is hitting .228 and Lugo .254 -- Nay is finding success in the Midwest League. He is hitting .304 and, after going homerless in April, has homered twice in 11 games this month.
