Twins activate Robinson, place Schafer on DL

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins activated outfielder Shane Robinson from the family emergency list after missing four games, and placed fellow outfielder Jordan Schafer on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee MCL sprain.

Robinson was placed on the family emergency list on Tuesday, and was eligible to return on Friday. He had until Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh to return without being placed on the restricted list.

Schafer, meanwhile, has been dealing with the knee sprain since April 29, when he fell rounding first base after reaching on a bunt single. He played in eight games after suffering the injury, hitting .286/.348/.333, but the speedster was caught stealing in his only stolen base attempt.

"Schafer's right knee issue has lingered," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "We thought initially he could play through it and see improvement, but we haven't seen that. So he's going to the DL to try to get that thing to 100 percent."

Schafer last played on Sunday, so the roster move is retroactive to Monday. He's eligible to come off the DL on May 26.

"He's gotten to the point where he doesn't want to battle through something that could last all season," Molitor said. "I think it probably affects all of the things he does. I think it's slowed him some. We've seen him out on some bang-bang plays he probably would beat out. Base stealing and balls in the outfield, it's just one of those things where his legs need to be good for him to be the kind of player who can help us."
