Salcedo suspended for use of banned substances

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins Minor League pitcher Adrian Salcedo was suspended 80 games for the use of a performance-enhancing substance and for the use of a stimulant, Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday.

Salcedo, who is with Double-A Chattanooga, tested positive for Tamoxifen, a performance-enhancing substance, and Heptaminol, a stimulant, both of which are in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Salcedo, 24, is not among the Twins' Top 30 prospects, according to MLB.com, but he had previously been ranked in the Top 20.

Salcedo had been pitching well at Chattanooga, posting a 1.38 ERA in five games, including one start. He struck out 10 and walked five in 13 innings. The Dominican Republic native had a 4.19 ERA with 76 strikeouts and 24 walks in 73 innings at Double-A last year.

His suspension is effective immediately.
