Uganda first African nation to win LLWS game

Seven different players from California recorded hits, while Connecticut's Nos. 2-4 batters combined for just one hit the day after after the club no-hit the team from Indiana.
The busy day in Williamsport, Pa., also featured a 6-2 Mexico win against Curacao in the international side of the bracket, and a historic 3-2 Uganda win against Oregon in an earlier consolation game.
California advances to face the loser of Wednesday's game between the teams from Goodlettsville, Tenn. (Southeast) and San Antonio (Southwest). Mexico will play the loser of Wednesday's game pitting the team from Aguadulce, Panama (Latin America), and Tokyo.
Uganda's victory had no bearing on the tournament results, but it was noteworthy nonetheless. Coming to Williamsport as the first team representative from Africa, the Ugandans won their first game of the tournament when they scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie.
Daniel Alio, who struck out eight and walked two before reaching his pitch count limit with one out in the sixth, scored Uganda's first run of the game after singling in the fourth and was also instrumental in the fifth-inning rally.
Later in the day, Mexico was able to keep its torrid offense going against Curacao, fueled by a three-run home run from Ramon Ballina. His third homer of the series came during a five-run third inning. He also came on in relief in the fourth, allowing just one hit and earning the save.
Mexico was playing without manager Fernando Rios, who was serving the first of a two-game suspension after a player on his roster did not receive an at-bat in a 4-3 win against Taiwan on Monday.
