Umpires for the 2014 World Series announced

Jeff Kellogg will serve as the crew chief for the 2014 World Series, Major League Baseball announced today. Kellogg is one of three regular season crew chiefs who will have a role working the 110th Fall Classic.

Kellogg, who has more than 22 years of Major League experience, will lead a crew that features fellow regular season crew chiefs Ted Barrett and Jeff Nelson and Major League Umpires Eric Cooper, Jerry Meals, Jim Reynolds and Hunter Wendelstedt. All seven umpires worked the Division Series this Postseason. Kellogg was the crew chief for the Detroit Tigers-Baltimore Orioles American League Division Series, while Barrett led the ALDS crew on the Kansas City Royals-Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim match-up.

During Games One and Two of the Fall Classic, Nelson will serve as the Replay Official at the Replay Operations Center at MLB Advanced Media in New York. When Nelson joins the on-field crew for Game Three, Meals will shift to Replay Official duties for the remainder of the series. Longtime Major League Umpire Brian O'Nora will serve as a Replay Assistant to Nelson and Meals throughout the World Series. 

The 2014 World Series will be the fifth career World Series for the 53-year-old Kellogg and his first as crew chief. The Michigan native previously worked the Fall Classic in 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2010. Kellogg's five World Series assignments are tied for the most among the active staff, along with Gerry Davis, Dana DeMuth, John Hirschbeck and Joe West. This marks the third career World Series for both Barrett and Nelson. Veteran Umpires Cooper, Meals, Reynolds and Wendelstedt each will make his debut in the Fall Classic. Wendelstedt will join his late father, Harry, on the career list of Fall Classic umpires. Harry worked five World Series (1973, 1980, 1986, 1991 and 1995). They will comprise only the fourth father-son tandem ever to each work the World Series, joining Ed Runge and son Paul; Henry "Shag" Crawford and son Jerry; and Tom Gorman and son Brian.
