USA Collegiate National Team no-hits Cuba

CARY, N.C. -- The USA Collegiate National Team made history Wednesday, becoming the first team to hold the Cuban National Team hitless in international play.

Three pitchers -- Tanner Houck (Missouri), A.J. Puk (Florida) and Ryan Hendrix (Texas A&M) -- combined to allow just two batters to reach base on a walk and an error in the 2-0 victory at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

It was the third no-hitter in the USA Collegiate National Team's history, the first since Carson Fulmer, Tyler Jay, Dillon Tate and Ryan Burr combined for a no-no against the Netherlands last year. Prior to that, the team no-hit Korea in 2010, with Sonny Gray, Kyle Winkler and Noe Ramirez on the mound.

Houck started the game and retired all 12 batters he faced. Puk took over in the fifth and tossed four scoreless innings, during which both the walk and the error occurred. And Hendrix clinched the no-hitter with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Catcher Chris Okey (Clemson) was behind the plate for all nine innings.

The victory was the first for the American team against Cuba since 2013, snapping a five-game losing skid vs. the Cubans. The teams resume play Thursday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park with a 7:05 p.m. ET contest.
