Vogt passes concussion tests after rough Saturday

OAKLAND -- After taking a bat to the top of his head on Saturday, catcher Stephen Vogt underwent a series of concussion tests on Sunday morning, all of which came back normal.

Vogt was hit on a Jurickson Profar swing in the sixth inning of the A's 4-2 win, but didn't leave the game until taking a foul ball off his face mask in the eighth.

He was not in the lineup for Oakland's Sunday finale against the Rangers but was deemed available off the bench by manager Bob Melvin.

"He went through a battery of tests this morning and was cleared," Melvin said, "so that's a good thing."

"I feel much better," said Vogt. "Obviously it hurts on touch, but, really, it's just a knot on my head. Nothing I can't play with."

The A's already have one catcher on the seven-day concussion disabled list in John Jaso, who went through several more tests on Saturday.

"Better," Melvin said. "Still not cleared for activity yet, but I think each and every day they have a scale showing he gets better and better every day. I think we're close to baseball activity but still not there yet."

Jaso won't travel with the team to Cincinnati on Monday but there's a chance he can join them in Toronto later in the week.
