Castillo out of lineup after taking pitch to elbow

Hernandez gets start at catcher for 4th game in 5 days

PHOENIX -- A day after returning to the starting lineup, D-backs catcher Welington Castillo was out again on Sunday for the 3-0 win over the Brewers.

Castillo, who had left hamstring tightness earlier in the week, now has a sore left elbow after he was hit by a pitch from Brewers starter Taylor Jungmann on Saturday. Castillo stayed in the game, his X-rays came back fine, but Sunday was a good opportunity to give him a day off and rest it, D-backs manager Chip Hale said.

"He's sore, I'm sure no more sore than he was [last night]," Hale said. "Usually day game after a night game we catch the other catcher anyway, but this is more of a reason to."

Castillo was available to pinch hit off the bench or come into the game if needed. The 28-year-old is batting .269 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in 33 games since being traded to the D-backs in early June.

Rule 5 Draft pick Oscar Hernandez started at catcher for the fourth time in five days on Sunday.

The D-backs will have another catching option return on Monday, when Jarrod Saltalamacchia is scheduled to come off the 15-day disabled list. Hale said the team would carry all three catchers on its 25-man roster.
