Castillo's status in doubt after another plunking

SEATTLE -- D-backs catcher Welington Castillo was lucky on Saturday night. He was hit hard by a pitch in the left elbow against the Brewers and didn't play on Sunday, but X-rays were negative and he returned to action on Monday.

Wearing an elbow guard on Monday, with his elbow still swollen from Saturday night, Castillo wasn't as lucky. The 28-year-old was hit in the same spot by a 94-mph fastball from Mariners reliever Carson Smith in the 10th inning of the Arizona's 4-3 win over Seattle, forcing him to exit the game.

"What can I do? It's baseball," said Castillo, who homered in his first at-bat on Monday. "I'm going to do the same thing I've always been doing with my approach. It doesn't feel really good right now, so we'll see tomorrow."

Castillo attempted to stay in the game after he was hit by Smith's pitch, telling manager Chip Hale to hold off and let him run the bases to see if the pain would go away. When Castillo returned to the dugout after the inning, he could still not bend his left arm and came out of the game.

"We'll see how it goes. Hopefully there's no break," Hale said. "They'll get an X-ray for sure. I don't know if he'll be able to go tomorrow."

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was activated from the disabled list on Monday, came off the bench to catch the bottom of the 10th.

"This can't be good, honestly. It doesn't feel good," Castillo said. "I feel all my fingers and everything, it's just sore, real sore."
