White House Historical Association and the Washington Nationals Partner

Partnership will highlight the association's education mission and promote the sale of the Official White House Christmas Ornament to support the association's fundraising initiatives

The White House Historical Association and the Washington Nationals today announced an innovative, multi-year partnership that will expand the association's efforts to educate the public on the rich history of the White House and expand its mission of preserving White House history.

The partnership marks the White House Historical Association's first partnership with a professional sports team. This launch coincides with the association's honoring of President Calvin Coolidge with the 2015 Official White House Christmas Ornament. Coolidge is recognized as being closely tied to the Washington Senators during his administration. "Coolidge Luck" was often touted for the Senators winning two of their three pennants while he was in office, and Coolidge's wife Grace was known as the First Lady of Baseball.

Supported entirely by private donations, the White House Historical Association is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational group established in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to assist in the preservation of the White House's state and public rooms, fund acquisitions for the White House permanent collection, and educate the public on the history of the White House. Since its founding, the Association has given more than $42 million to the White House in fulfillment of its mission.

"Connecting people to the historic legacy of the White House is the privileged responsibility of the White House Historical Association," said Association President Stewart McLaurin. "With the help of strategic partners, like the Washington Nationals, we are able to reach new audiences, to raise awareness and understanding of the historic White House and the need to preserve and protect it for generations to come."

"We are so pleased to welcome the White House Historical Association to Nationals Park," said Valerie Camillo, Washington Nationals Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer. "We know Nationals fans will enjoy the in-park aspects of this combination of American history and America's national pastime."

The partnership between the White House Historical Association and the Nationals will include a variety of educational, community and marketing extensions, including:

  • Introduction of a White House history curriculum in area middle schools;
  • A President Coolidge bobblehead giveaway;
  • Signage on the Nationals' left field garage honoring one of President Coolidge's first pitches;
  • Sales of the ornament in Nationals team stores, supporting the WHHA's primary fundraising efforts; and
  • In-game White House History Challenge featuring Nationals fans answering questions about the White House. Winners will receive a White House Christmas Ornament.
