White Sox announce 2016 regular-season schedule

The Chicago White Sox have announced their 2016 regular-season schedule, with the season-opening, four-game series at Oakland from Monday, April 4-Thursday, April 7. The club opens the season on the road for just the fifth time in the last 12 seasons and for the first time in Oakland since 1975.

The White Sox celebrate Opening Day at U.S. Cellular Field on Friday, April 8 vs. the Cleveland Indians. Following the three-game set with Cleveland (April 8-10), Chicago takes a six-game, seven-day trip to Minnesota (April 11-14) and Tampa Bay (April 15-17).

The New York Mets (May 30-June 1 at Citi Field) are the first of six interleague opponents the White Sox face in 2016. Chicago travels to Miami from August 12-14 for the first time since 2004 and will play in Marlins Park for the first time since its opening in 2012. The Sox are just one of three teams (Kansas City and the Angels) who have not played at Marlins Park. The White Sox host a two-game series against Philadelphia from August 23-24, the first time the Phillies have visited U.S. Cellular Field since 2004.

Other 2016 interleague series include: the Crosstown Series vs. the Cubs (July 25-26 at U.S. Cellular Field and July 27-28 at Wrigley Field); Washington (June 7-9 at U.S. Cellular Field); Atlanta (July 8-10 at U.S. Cellular Field) and Philadelphia (September 20-21 at Citizens Bank Park).

The White Sox will begin a three-game series against the New York Yankees at home on July 4, marking the sixth straight season the Sox will host an opponent on the holiday. Chicago welcomes the remaining non-divisional American League teams to U.S. Cellular Field on the following dates: Los Angeles (April 18-21), Texas (April 22-24), Boston (May 3-5), Houston (May 17-19), Toronto (June 24-26), Baltimore (August 5-7), Oakland (August 19-21), Seattle (August 25-28) and Tampa Bay (September 26-29).

Chicago hosts four, three-team homestands (May 17-25, June 7-15, August 19-28, September 5-15) and takes four, three-city trips in 2016 (May 26-June 5, July 27-August 4, August 9-18, September 16-25).

The White Sox play 13 home weekend series next season, including the home-opening series vs. Cleveland, interleague series vs. the Braves and the final series of the season vs. Minnesota (September 30-October 2).

The 2016 schedule is tentative and subject to change. Finalized game times and a complete broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
