White Sox claim Lars Anderson off waivers from Arizona

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have acquired first baseman Lars Anderson off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Anderson, 25, appeared in six games with Boston last season, going 1-8 (.125).  He spent most of the season with Class AAA Pawtucket, batting .259 (88-340) with nine home runs, 52 RBI and 49 runs scored.  Anderson was traded to Cleveland on July 31, 2012 for right-hander Steven Wright and finished the season with Class AAA Columbus, appearing in 18 games.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder was traded to Arizona on December 11, 2012 with infielder Didi Gregorius and left-hander Tony Sipp in exchange for right-handers Matt Albers, Trevor Bauer and Bryan Shaw.  Anderson was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on January 24, 2013.

Anderson has appeared in 30 career games over three major-league seasons with Boston (2010-12), hitting .167 (8-48) with four RBI.

Anderson, who bats and throws left-handed, originally was drafted by Boston in the 18th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.  He entered the 2009 season rated by Baseball America as the No. 1 Prospect in the Red Sox organization.

With Anderson's addition, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 40.
