Alexei, White Sox celebrate all-around effort

KANSAS CITY -- There was Alexei Ramirez, standing with his hands up in the air in celebration, as Tyler Saladino rose to his feet just to Ramirez's right after diving to corral Jonny Gomes' hard-hit grounder.

Ramirez's celebration over this one great play leading off the second sort of expressed the feelings for an entire White Sox fan base during a 12-1 win over the Royals on Friday night. And it only got better.

"That was a nice catch and a nice play, and my reaction was to celebrate it because it was a nice catch," said Ramirez, through interpreter and White Sox Spanish language broadcaster Billy Russo of Saladino's grab to start the second. "I always try to cheer and celebrate when one of the guys does something good."

The White Sox gave Ramirez plenty of moments to celebrate on Friday.

They matched a season-high with 12 runs scored and tied a season-high with 17 hits. Jose Abreu launched his 25th homer, Adam Eaton extended his career-high dinger total to 11 among matching a career-best four hits and John Danks hurled a complete game to produce Chicago's first victory in seven games at Kauffman Stadium this season.

Much like Eaton, Ramirez matched a career-high four hits. He even ran through a stop sign from third-base coach Joe McEwing and still managed to score with one out in the eighth. It was that kind of night for the White Sox.

"At first, he gave me the sign to go to home," Ramirez said. "But when he changed to the stop sign it was too late for me so it was hard to slow all the way down."

This sort of victory was especially comforting for a White Sox squad that has had 75 contests decided by two runs or fewer this season, including 20 of their last 30.

"Definitely a blowout, but shoot, at this point, just wins," Danks said. "It's a lot more fun to win, definitely. To get a win while scoring 12 runs and pitching well, that's just a fun team win, it really is."
