White Sox instructor hit by line drive during BP
Sierra struck above right eye, taken to hospital
CLEVELAND -- White Sox pregame instructor Luis Sierra was struck by a line drive above the right eye during early batting practice Friday afternoon at Progressive Field. Sierra sustained two orbital fractures and a torn retina and will be staying overnight in a local hospital before having surgery on Saturday.
Sierra, who turned 28 on Thursday, played in the White Sox system from 2008-14. He joined the Major League staff prior to the 2015 season.
