White Sox recall Simon Castro from Class AAA Charlotte

Prior to today's game vs. Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Simon (SEE-mone) Castro from Class AAA Charlotte.

Castro, 25, is 3-6 with a 4.92 ERA (41 ER/75.0 IP) and 63 strikeouts in 16 games (12 starts) with Charlotte in 2013, allowing 73 hits (.259 average), 28 walks and seven home runs. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder made his last four appearances out of the bullpen, going 1-0 with a 4.70 ERA (4 ER/7.2 IP) and nine strikeouts, after making 12 starts to open the season.

Castro, who will wear uniform No. 55, has gone 39-44 with a 4.25 ERA (354 ER/750.0 IP) and 692 strikeouts in 154 games (146 starts) over eight minor-league seasons. He was acquired from San Diego with pitcher Pedro Hernandez in exchange for Carlos Quentin on December 31, 2011.

Following the second game of last night's doubleheader, the White Sox optioned third baseman Brent Morel and right-hander Brian Omogrosso to Charlotte.
