Sox reportedly agree to deal with Andy LaRoche

CHICAGO -- Spring Training will have a family feel for Adam LaRoche, with the White Sox reportedly agreeing to terms on a Minor League deal with his brother, Andy. That deal involves a non-roster invite to big league camp.

Adam, 35, agreed to a two-year, $25 million deal with the White Sox this offseason and figures to split time with Jose Abreu at first base and designated hitter. Abreu told MLB.com last week that he was looking forward to working with LaRoche and was excited to have a cleanup hitter with LaRoche's accomplishments and a leader with LaRoche's veteran presence to fill the void left by the retirements of Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn.

Andy, 31, has not had 100 plate appearances in a single season in the Majors since the 2011 season with the A's. He has not played in the Majors since 2013, when he had four at-bats with Toronto. The veteran has defensive experience around the infield, as well as in the outfield, and hit .248 with five homers and 29 RBIs for Triple-A Buffalo last season.

Dave LaRoche, the father of the two, picked up nine saves over two years with the Cubs and coached for the White Sox from 1989-91. Baseball America first tweeted about the Andy LaRoche Minor League deal, also mentioning that the White Sox signed first baseman Chris Jacobs and re-signed outfielder Michael Taylor. All of these moves figure to be announced when the team releases its official list of non-roster invites.
