Worth noting

• John Maine would have liked to have at least two fastballs back from his Friday outing, as he continued his bid for a spot in the starting rotation. In three innings, the right-hander allowed three runs and three hits, including a solo home run by Francisco Cervelli and a two-run shot by Travis Hafner.

"I think that come the season, my pitch selection would be a little different," said Maine, who had two walks and a pair of strikeouts.

• "I liked the way we swung the bats," Redmond said, whose team outhit the Yankees, 13-6. "They got the bigger hits."

• Infielders Greg Dobbs and Placido Polanco could return from injuries Saturday. Dobbs has been hampered by a right calf strain and has played only once this spring. Polanco was batting .400 through four games before being sidelined with a right oblique strain.

• Right-hander Jacob Turner allowed two runs and walked three batters during a three-inning stint against prospects Thursday in Jupiter. "He had trouble with his command again, and that's definitely a concern," Redmond said. "Hopefully he can get it going over his next couple of starts. We need a guy in that rotation that can go in there and pound the strike zone and give us innings."
