Worth noting

• Derek Jeter had an off-day on Tuesday, but he will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. Girardi said the plan is for him to play the field on back-to-back days, and when asked if Jeter could return for the Yankees this weekend, he said he wouldn't rule it out unless Sunday came and he still wasn't with the team yet.

"Anything is possible at this point," Girardi said. "A lot of things have happened here this year."

• Girardi said it's possible that Alex Rodriguez will need all 20 rehab games before he returns to the Bronx.

"I think if you're healthy, it's enough," Girardi said. "If you're concerned about your health, and his hip is not functioning correctly, it might take longer. But so far we haven't gotten any reports that it's not."

• Infielder Jayson Nix, who has been on the disabled list since July 3 with a right hamstring strain, still has not begun rehabbing the injury. Girardi said he is currently just resting it.
