Worth noting

• In the wake of Monday's announcement that Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has been suspended without pay for the remainder of the season after coming clean about violating the game's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, Melvin was asked whether he was concerned about the possibility of losing Bartolo Colon -- who, like Braun, has been connected to the Biogenesis clinic -- to a suspension.

Melvin said he remains "consistent with the stance that I've had all along," believing Colon, who served a 50-game suspension after testing positive for an elevated level of synthetic testosterone last year, has already paid his dues.

• Houston native Chris Young, batting second on Monday, entered the game as a career .339 hitter against the Astros, with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs in 44 games.

Young had done particularly well near his home confines, batting .404 with seven home runs in 21 games at Minute Maid Park.

He burnished those stats in Monday's 4-3 win, going 2-for-5 with a triple and his ninth homer of the year, a solo shot in the seventh off lefty reliever Travis Blackley, a former member of the A's.

"He does have some history here," Melvin said, smiling, before the game. "I'm sure the Chris Young fan club and family pack with be here in full force, as they always are here."
