Worth noting

• As expected, the D-backs recalled left-hander Tyler Skaggs from Class A Visalia to start Monday's game against the Cubs.

Skaggs was optioned to Class A just prior to the All-Star break so that he could stay on regular rest -- Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno were on All-Star breaks themselves -- and so that the D-backs could add an extra reliever for the final few games of the first half.

To make room for Skaggs, left-hander Eury De La Rosa was optioned to Reno.

• Brandon McCarthy's right shoulder felt good throughout his 4 1/3 inning rehab stint for Reno on Sunday.

It was McCarthy's first rehab outing since going on the disabled list May 31, and he allowed just one run through the first four innings before running out of gas and giving up five in the fifth.
