Worth noting

• Injured third baseman Wilmer Flores did "some pretty serious running" during batting practice Friday, according to manager Terry Collins, putting him in line for a potential return to the starting lineup this weekend. Flores has had only one pinch-hit at-bat since twisting his right ankle Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

• Collins said that interim closer LaTroy Hawkins, who took a comebacker off his groin Wednesday night in Los Angeles, would likely be available Friday for the first time since his injury. Rookie Gonzalez Germen earned a two-inning save Thursday night in Hawkins' absence.

• A September scheduling change has wreaked havoc on the Mets' travel schedule. ESPN is now broadcasting the Mets' Sunday, Sept. 1 game in Washington, shifting it to an 8:05 p.m. ET start. The Mets are scheduled to play the next day, Labor Day, in Atlanta at 1:10 p.m. ET.

• Slumping outfielder Juan Lagares received a day off Friday, with plans to spend extra time working alongside hitting coach Dave Hudgens. The Mets believe that Lagares, who is 1-for-his-last-21 with seven strikeouts, is lunging at too many pitches out of the zone.
