Worth noting

• The Dodgers are considering using rookie starter Stephen Fife in spot starts once rosters expand Sept. 1, manager Don Mattingly said on Monday.

"We may slip Fife in there at different times to give our guys an extra day," Mattingly said. "But everything is still kind of fluid in that area."

Fife has a 2.47 ERA in nine starts with the Dodgers this season. The right-hander has been with Triple-A Albuquerque since Aug. 5.

• Triple-A outfielder Nick Buss was named to the Pacific Coast League postseason All-Star team. Buss leads the PCL with 94 RBIs and is hitting .308 in 123 games.

• Class A Great Lakes right-handed pitcher Zachary Bird earned Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors for the period Aug. 19-25. Bird struck out six over six scoreless innings Aug. 21.

• The Dodgers recently signed left-handed pitcher Maximiliano Gooding, 17, of Panama and announced the transaction on Monday.
