Worth noting

• The Dodgers announced Monday's home game against Arizona is sold out.

• Mattingly said his pitchers have done a good job of holding runners, and he hopes that will prove true during the weekend series against the Reds and speedy Billy Hamilton.

"We're fortunate to have a lot of guys who are pretty good at holding [runners] on," said Mattingly.

• A ceremony took place prior to Saturday's game at Great American Ball Park to unveil the new statue of former Reds second baseman Joe Morgan. Mattingly, who grew up in Evansville, Ind., about 3 1/2 hours away, grew up rooting for the Big Red Machine.

"There were a lot of Cardinals fans in Evansville," said Mattingly, "but I gravitated toward the Reds because they were winning. I remember Joe Morgan. I remember the whole team. We didn't get many games on TV in those days, but it seemed like we saw Dodgers vs. Reds every weekend."

• Carl Lowenstein has been scouting for the Dodgers for 33 years. He scouted Mattingly while working for Philadelphia, but did not recommend him to the Phillies.

"This guy got away from me," Lowenstein said with a grin. "He made me re-evaluate my scouting techniques."

• Before the two straight losses to Cincinnati, the Dodgers had lost only one series since June 19.

Zack Greinke is unbeaten in his last eight starts. Saturday's loss was just the fifth in 24 games the right-hander has started.

• Pinch-hitter Jerry Hairston Jr. was ejected in the ninth inning after taking a called third strike from Sam LeCure.
