• While Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond was happy about driving in the game-winning run against the Braves on Sunday, his biggest accomplishment of the day was that he stopped chewing tobacco during the game for the first time in his life. Desmond made a promise to his mother, Pattie Paradise, early in the day that he would stop dipping. Desmond has been chewing tobacco even since he was a teenager.

"I hate to say this, because I know there will probably be kids that hear this, but for me growing up, it was part of the game." Desmond said.

"That was a bigger victory than beating the Braves. I'm really trying hard to quit. I kind of decided that it was time. It's not going to be easy. I've been doing it for a long time. It's a terrible habit, but I'm working on it."

• Tanner Roark was warming up in the bullpen on Sunday. Williams opted not to use the right-hander, who will likely not start until Friday in Atlanta.
