Worth noting

Brandon Moss set an unusual A's record over the weekend when he was hit by a pitch four times in a four-game set in Houston. That's the most by an A's player in a series of any length since at least 1914.

Melvin said he's never seen a player stand so close to the plate.

"I throw BP to him quite a bit," Melvin said, "and sometimes he looks like a right-handed hitter up there he's so on the plate. Yet you can throw him a ball in, and it looks like it's going to hit him, and he hits it into the right-field seats. So he knows his strengths and weaknesses and where he wants the ball. Really, outside corner for him ends up being middle."
