Worth noting

• Triple-A right-hander Jonathan Pettibone will have exploratory surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday. Orthopedist James Andrews will perform the surgery. Pettibone has been sidelined three times with shoulder issues since late last season.

• Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said left-hander Cliff Lee is getting closer to throwing off a mound, although when remains to be seen. Lee is on the disabled list with a strained left elbow. "He's throwing every day," Sandberg said. "He is increasing the distances. Everything is fine, as far as the next day's effects."

• Sandberg said injured third baseman Cody Asche, who is on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, "possibly" could rejoin the team this weekend in St. Louis. "At the earliest," Sandberg said.
