Ascenio knocks in career-high 6 RBIs

Padres' No. 27 prospect hits grand slam in the 1st, two-run shot in the 6th inning in Missions' 6-5 win

Double-A San Antonio came away with a 6-5 victory over Tulsa on Monday afternoon thanks largely to one man: Yeison Asencio.

The Padres' No. 27 prospect finished 2-for-3 with two homers and all six of the Missions' RBIs -- a new career-high. He began the home team's scoring in the first inning with a grand slam off of Tulsa's Jharel Cotton that made it 4-1 and later came through again after the Drillers had recaptured a 5-4 lead.

With a runner on and one out in the sixth, Asencio clobbered a two-run homer -- again off Cotton, the Dodgers' No. 25 prospect -- that gave San Antonio the lead. The Missions held onto the one-run margin to improve its record to 39-49.

"He looked like he was seeing the ball really well today," San Antonio hitting coach Morgan Burkhart told MiLB.com. "He's been hot. ... He hadn't been swinging the bat badly -- he just ran into some balls today."

The outfielder has provided a steady bat all season. Monday marked his second two-homer game of the year and he's hitting .287/.323/.419 with eight dingers and 38 RBIs. His outburst against Tulsa helped end a mini-slump, as Asencio had not homered or recorded a multi-hit game since July 2.

Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2009, the 25-year-old has 50 homers and 317 RBIs in his pro career.
