Youngster tosses 47th no-no in LLWS history

Will Lucas capped Monday's action at the Little League World Series on a historic note.

Lucas, a right-hander on the New England team from Fairfield, Conn., tossed the 47th no-hitter in LLWS history to lead his team to a 4-0 win over the Great Lakes squad from New Castle, Ind.

Lucas also struck out 13. Only a leadoff walk in the fourth separated him from perfection.

New England's victory advanced it to face the West team from Petaluma, Calif., which had an exciting evening itself.

Danny Marzo hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to lead the West to a 5-4 win over the Mid-Atlantic team from Parsippany, N.J.

The New England and West teams meet at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Lucas and New England weren't the only ones to make history Monday in Williamsport, Pa., as the Midwest team from Kearny, Neb., scored a record 17 runs in a 17-1 victory over Europe.

Fifteen of the Midwest team's run came in the second inning, with the big blast a three-run homer from shortstop Jared Wegner. Wegner finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs.

In international action, the Caribbean squad eliminated Canada with a 4-3 win, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth.

A sacrifice fly to deep left by the Caribbean team's Christopher Koeiman scored Jurickson Fecunda, while Daytan Biegel also came home after Canadian left fielder Carson Ho fell after making the catch. Mychellon Jansen followed with a solo homer.

The Caribbean team advanced to play Mexico at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Mexico eliminated Asia Pacific with a 4-3 win Monday thanks to a three-run third.
