Pacific Northwest youth to compete at Safeco Field in Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition

Boys and girls from around the greater Pacific Northwest will compete for the chance to go to the National Finals in Cincinnati at the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Team Championship Competition at Safeco Field on Sunday, June 21, following the Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros game.

The 24 competitors qualified for Sunday's Team Championship by placing first in their age divisions at their local competitions and becoming the All-Around Champions at their sectional competitions, which were held during May and June. Only the top three performers in each age group from the sectional competitions in the greater Pacific Northwest qualified for the Mariners Team Championship Competition.

Competitors come from as far away as Montana and British Columbia, as well as Idaho, Oregon and Western Washington. Sunday's winners of each age division have the opportunity to advance to the National Finals, which will take place during MLB's 2015 All-Star Week festivities at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The scores from the Safeco Field competition will be compared with the scores of all competitors across the country in each age group. The three highest scores in each age group among all competitors will vie for the National Championships on July 13 before the All-Star Home Run Derby.

Pitch, Hit & Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. The grassroots program is designed to provide youth across North America with an integrated competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball skills. Children compete in four age groups: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition including the Local, Sectional, Team Championship and National Finals.
