Edward Florentino has been hitting home runs in bunches lately, and they’re coming in clutch moments, too.
The Pirates’ No. 2 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 35 prospect overall launched a walk-off homer on Tuesday, delivering a 4-3 win in 11 innings to High-A Greensboro over Hub City at First National Bank Field.
Though he entered the final frame 0-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, Florentino didn’t let that stop him from having a big moment. Hub City took a one-run lead in the top of the inning, but Florentino drilled an outside pitch to left-center field, a two-run shot for the win.
It was the 19-year-old outfielder’s 24th homer on the season and his fifth in his past 10 games. It was also his second consecutive game with an 11th-inning long ball, after Florentino crushed a grand slam in extras on Sunday. The 2026 Futures Game representative has posted a 1.168 OPS over this 10-game hot streak, recording a hit in eight of those games.
