Yanks No. 4 prospect Lagrange lands on injured list (shoulder)

The Yankees placed hard-throwing right-hander , ranked by MLB Pipeline as the organization’s No. 4 prospect (and No. 85 prospect overall), on the seven-day Triple-A injured list on Thursday due to a shoulder injury.

The news comes amid a rough stretch for the Yanks -- New York has lost seven straight games and 10 of its last 12 heading into a series opener against the Twins at Yankee Stadium on Friday. The seven-game skid is the Yankees’ longest since 2023.

Lagrange, 23, was seen as a potential impact arm for the Yankees’ bullpen this year, but depending on the severity of his injury, his ascension to the Major Leagues might be on hold. The injury could also potentially impact how the Yankees approach the Aug. 3 Trade Deadline.

The Yankees’ relief corps could use bolstering, as evidenced in Wednesday’s loss to the Tigers, when New York scored two runs in the ninth to force extra innings before reliever Camilo Doval surrendered four runs (two earned) in the top of the 11th. Doval has struggled so far this season; after Wednesday’s outing, his ERA is 4.96.

The 6-foot-7, 248-pound Lagrange has an electric arm. His fastball has touched 103 mph and he raised eyebrows during Spring Training by striking out three-time American League MVP Aaron Judge on three pitches, including a 102.6 mph heater on the final pitch. Lagrange’s arsenal also includes a slider, cutter and changeup.

Lagrange is the latest addition to what is becoming a long list of notable players sidelined for the Yanks. In addition to Judge (stress fracture of first rib on right side), Max Fried, Giancarlo Stanton, Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil are out. Trent Grisham (right hamstring strain) and Ryan McMahon (peritonsillar abscess) are expected back for the weekend series against Minnesota.
