Staumont made the Opening Day roster in 2022 *min. 90 appearances for the third straight year, but endured two stints on the Injured List, from June 26-July 15 with a neck strain, and from Aug. 24 through season’s end with right biceps tendinitis... He surrendered a HR to Aaron Judge on May 1, snapping a 29.0-inning homerless streak that dated back to Aug. 14, 2021, ending this run one out shy of matching his career-best homerless streak of 29.1 innings, set from Sept. 9, 2020-May 19, 2021... Staumont had a 3.67 ERA (11 ER in 27.0 IP) in 30 appearances before the All-Star break, but had a 13.50 ERA (16 ER in 10.2 IP) in 12 outings after the break. .. He threw a career-high 42 pitches on Aug. 23 vs. Arizona, in which he was charged with four runs on three hits and three walks, and was placed on the IL the following day.

Made a career-high 41 appearances (5 starts) with Omaha (AAA), where he went 2-5 with a 3.51 ERA (29 ER in 74.1 IP) and 103 strikeouts (12.5 K/9)...Recorded his second career save and first since 2015 on May 2 at Iowa, pitching a scoreless 10th inning in an 8-7 win...Had 14.2 consecutive scoreless innings from April 7 (Game 2)-May 11, a stretch in which he allowed just eight hits and struck out 27 (16.6 K/9)...Had a 1.74 ERA (4 ER in 20.2 IP) through 17 relief appearances, before moving to the rotation for five starts from May 28-June 21...Had a 4.66 ERA (10 ER in 19.1 IP) in five starts, but six of those 10 runs came in his last start on June 21…had a 2.20 ERA (4 ER in 16.1 IP) through his first four starts...Moved back to the bullpen following his June 21, and made his remaining 19 appearances in relief, in which he posted a 3.93 ERA (15 ER in 34.1 IP) with 44 strikeouts (11.5 K/9).

Fanned 138 hitters in 124.2 innings (10.0 K/9)…his strikeout total ranked second among Royals farmhands, behind only Foster Griffin's 141... Recorded 93 strikeouts in just 76.0 innings at Omaha...
