Proved to be a very reliable closer for the Indians in the second half after missing the first three months of the season with a strained right elbow... Bob saved a team-high 13 of his 14 save chances (93%) and recorded saves in his last 12 chances from 8/5 thru the remainder of the season...The 12 consecutive save conversions were also a season-high by a Tribe reliever...Following Wickman's 2004 debut on 7/6 the Tribe bullpen as a whole converted 19 of 28 chances (68%) after saving only 13 of 32 (41%) opportunities from 4/5-7/5...Suffered a sprain of his surgically repaired right elbow ligament on 3/15 in spring training and missed the first 3 months of the season...Was placed on the disabled list 4/2 (made 1 official spring outing) and rehabbed in Cleveland until beginning a rehab assignment at AA Akron and AAA Buffalo from 6/18-7/3...Was activated from the disabled list on 7/3 and made his 2004 debut on 7/6 vs. Texas (1.0IP, 1H, 0R, 1K), his first appearance in the big leagues since 8/10/02 vs. Texas...His save on 7/28 vs. Detroit was his first since 7/20/02 at Kansas City...Allowed only 4 runs (4ER) over his first 16 appearances covering 16.0IP (17H) and sported an ERA of 2.25 thru August 22...Indians were 25-5 when he appeared in a game as he saved the final game of the season on 10/3 at Minnesota...Did not allow a run over his last 4 games (3SV, 4.0IP, 3H, 4K)...His 13 saves in 2004 were T13th among AL relievers.
2003
Did not pitch in a major league game the entire season as the Indians look for Bob to resume his late-inning dominating presence in 2004...Bob spent the entire season rehabbing his surgically repaired right elbow after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow in December of 2002...Bob's rehab and recovery progressed well enough for him to make 4 rehab appearances from 8/19-30 at A Lake County and AA Akron, striking out 6 batters in 3.2 innings of work.
2002
Season was marred by right elbow problems that ended his season in early August that eventually led to constructive surgery on his right elbow (aka "Tommy John" surgery)...Elbow bothered him most of the season, but he battled his way to 36 appearances and 20 saves in 22 chances (91%)...Saved his first 9 chances of the season from 4/3-5/18 to set a new career high for consecutive saves w/o a blown save with 21 dating back to 8/ 14/01...First blown save came on 5/19 vs. Kansas City... Since 7/23/01 he has saved 37 of last 40 (93%)...Allowed runs in three straight outings, 7/16-21, and blew his 2nd save of the season on 7/21 at Kansas City and was placed on the 15-day DL for the first of two trips in 2002 on 7/22...Marked the first in his big league career that he was placed on the disabled list...Was on the DL from 7/22-8/9 and from 8/11 thru the remainder of the season...Tossed 1.0 scoreless inning after his activation on 8/10 vs. Texas (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) and did not pitch again the rest of the campaign...Picked up his lone win of the season in that outing on 8/10 vs. Texas...Flew to Anaheim, CA to be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum on 8/13 where the "Tommy John" procedure was recommended due to ligament and tendon damage in his right elbow...Yocum performed reconstructive surgery ("Tommy John") on his right elbow in Anaheim, CA on 12/6 to repair ligament and tendon damage in the elbow...At the time of his injury he was 10th in the American League with 20 saves and he was 7th with 57 Rolaids Relief points.
2001
Was simply outstanding at the back end of the bullpen, saving 32 of his 35 chances (91.4%) on his way to the best season by an Indians closer since Jose Mesa in 1995...Finished 7th in the AL in saves as his 91.4% save percentage was the 4th best mark in the league...Finished 5th among AL closers with 100 relief points in the Rolaids Relief standings...The free agent-to-be signed to three year contract thru 2004 on 11/5...Save Situations in '01: 1-run: 9-12; 2-run: 12-12; 3-run: 9-9; 4+-run: 2-2...Indians were 61-9 over his team-high 70 appearances, which ranked tied for 8th in the American League...Won all 5 of his decisions in 2001...Topped the 70 appearance mark for the 5th time in the last 6 years (had 69 in 2000)...Equaled his career-high by saving his first 13 chances thru 6/6, giving him a career-best 15 straight conversions dating back to 9/26/00 (has since been eclipsed)...Saved 17 of his last 18 chances from 7/23 through the end of the season...In his last 18 games on the season after last blown save of August 14 vs. Minnesota he was 2-0 w/12 straight saves and a 0.49 ERA (18.1 IP, 18 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 16 SO)...Lost his closer job briefly from 6/23 after the acquisition of John Rocker until regaining it on 7/ 21...Allowed only 1 ER during his set-up tenure (10 G, 10.0 IP)...Had an Indians relief season-high 15 consecutive appearances and 15.1 scoreless innings streak from 8/18 thru 9/25...Limited batters to a .222 (14-63) mark with RISP and .206 (22-107) with runners on...His relief ERA of 2.39 was the 5th best mark among AL relievers.
2000
Stabilized the back end of the Tribe's bullpen after being acquired from Milwaukee on 7/28 along with RHP Steve Woodard & RHP Jason Bere in exchange for four players including 1B Richie Sexson...Bob was 14 for 17 (82.4%) over his save chances with Cleveland after saving 16 of 20 (80%) with Milwaukee, including 7 straight with Cleveland from 8/23-9/20...Combined between the two stops on the year he was 3-5 with a 3.10 ERA in 69 games (72.2 IP, 64 H, 25 ER, 32 BB, 55 SO) with 30 saves in 37 chances (81.1%)...Saved 9 of his last 10 chances with Cleveland (90.0%) after blowing his first chance on 8/1 at Tampa Bay in his Cleveland debut (0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R/ ER, 2 BB, 1 SO)...At the time of the trade on 7/28 his 16 saves ranked 8th among National League closers...Combined ERA of 3.20 in 272 games with the Brewers from 1996-2000 (79 SV, 103 SV OPP, 315.0 IP, 292 H, 112 ER) and finished his tenure with Milwaukee tied for 3rd in career saves (79 SV) and 7th in appearances (272)...Had career high scoreless inning streak snapped at 18.0 on 5/8 vs. Chicago (NL) and did not allow a run over his first 12 appearances thru 5/8 (12.1 IP)...Was a 2000 National League All-Star, his first career appearance in the Mid- Summer Classic and tossed a scoreless 8th inning (fanned Tony Batista)...Overall between the two stops, major league hitters hit .235 (64-272) with 1 HR...Only homer allowed on the year came in Philadelphia on 6/29 (0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R/ER) on a solo HR by Brian Hunter...Did not allow a homer over his last 37 outings (37.2 IP) and did not yield a homer to a left-handed hitter all year...Saved both ends of a day/night doubleheader for the first time in his career on 9/20 at Boston...Recorded his 100th career major league save on 9/5 vs. Tampa Bay.

Opened the season with the New York Yankees before coming to the Brewers on 8/23 along with outfielder Gerald Williams for pitcher Graeme Lloyd and outfielder Pat Listach...Pitched a total of 95.2 relief innings, ranking third in the AL...Finished the season tied for fourth in AL relief wins with seven...Made Brewers debut and picked up the victory in Milwaukee's 4-3 win over the Indians on 8/24 at Cleveland.

Led AL in appearances with 53...Suffered a blown save and a 5-4 loss vs. Chicago on 6/1 snapping his 11-game home winning streak...Led Yankee relievers with five victories, 70 innings pitched and 56 strikeouts...For the first time in his professional career, all appearances were in relief.
