Jason Joseph Furmaniak
Attended Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School and Lewis University, located just outside of Chicago. Pronounced (fer-MAIN-ee-ack)...utilityman has played mostly shortstop over his 10-year professional career, but has also seen extensive action at 2nd base and 3rd base and some at left field and center field.
2010
Suffered a heel injury in spring training that sidelined him until mid-May...played 11 games at Double-A Montgomery before being promoted to Triple-A Durham on May 29...hit a combined .270 (88-for-326) with 19 2B and 10 SB in 88 games (49-2B, 24-SS, 15-3B, 2-RF)...hit .299 (75-for-251) against righties compared to .173 (13-for-75) against southpaws.
2009
Spent the entire season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies organization...played 50 games at 2B, 31 at SS and 30 at 3B.

Had four stints with the A's and was 3 for 17 (.176) with one RBI in 16 games...was 0 for 7 in Oakland and 3 for 10 (.300) on the road...appeared in four games at second base, three at shortstop, two at third base, two in right field and one in left field...also pinch ran seven times and scored three runs in those appearances...made five starts (two at third base, two at shortstop, one at second base)...was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on June 16 and went 0 for 1 in one game at second base during his first stint that ended on June 20...did not play during his second stint from July 12 to 14...brought up for a third time on August 3 and went 0 for 4 with a walk in five games before he was optioned on August 14...returned for the final time on August 20 and went 3 for 12 (.250) over his final 10 games...three of his five starts came during a four-game series at Tampa Bay from August 23 to 26 (3 for 10, one RBI) but he would not get another bat until September 28...appeared in just two of the final 21 games after September 5...spent the balance of the season at Sacramento where he batted .292 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI in 106 games...added 49 walks for a .373 on-base percentage...led the River Cats in stolen bases (21), hit by pitches (8) and strikeouts (105) and ranked second in at bats (424), runs (70), hits (124) and home runs...ranked fourth in the A's farm system in stolen bases and was sixth in batting...hit .298 (94 for 315) against righthanded pitching and .275 (30 for 109) against left-handers...his average slipped to .264 with runners in scoring position...hit 12 of his 15 home runs on the road...11 were solo shots...batted .277 in 83 games before the Triple-A All-Star Break and .344 in 23 games after the break...hit .313 in 84 night games compared to .212 in 22 day games...appeared in 43 games at shortstop, 25 at second base, 21 at third base, 17 in left field, one in right field and one at designated hitter...was also 0 for 1 as a pinch hitter...hit in every spot in the order except fourth and fifth...hit .327 with 10 home runs and a .396 on-base percentage in 61 games in the leadoff spot and batted second 28 times...reached base safely via hit or walk in each of his first 31 games through May 10...hit .303 with a .412 on-base percentage over that span...had a pair of two-steal games on April 6 against Tacoma and April 13 at Tacoma and swiped 10 bases in 22 games in April...had 11 steals over his final 84 games...had his first of five four-hit games on April 14 at Tacoma...compiled a season best 12-game hitting streak from April 29 to May 10 (20 for 54, .370)...capped his 31-game reaching base streak by homering in consecutive games on May 9 and 10 at Omaha but then went 0 for 4 the next day...went 4 for 5 with two home runs and three RBI on May 14 at Iowa...it was his only two homer game of the season and the RBI matched his season high...that boosted his batting average to .324 but he went 5 for 55 (.091) over his next 15 games from May 15 to 30 to drop his average to .258...finished May with six home runs in 29 games...was batting .275 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI in 66 games when the A's called for the first time on June 16...returned to Sacramento on June 21 and had a pair of four-hit games on June 22 against Tacoma and June 28 against Fresno...finished June with a .350 batting average and recorded 10 of his 18 doubles in 24 games in the month...hit .286 (22 for 77) in 18 games from June 21 to July 8 following his first option from Oakland...returned to Sacramento a third time on July 14 and had another four-hit game on July 24 at Memphis...went 26 for 74 (.351) in 18 games during his third stint with the River Cats...was sent to Sacramento for the final time on August 14 and hit safely in all five games (7 for 22, .318) before he was promoted to Oakland for the final time on August 20.
