HOW OBTAINED ... Acquired on July 25, 2001 in a three-team, five player transaction...Rockies acquired Belitz along with INF Jose Ortiz and OF Mario Encarnacion from Oakland; Colorado sent Neifi Perez to Kansas City for Jermaine Dye; Dye was then traded to Oakland to acquire the three players.
IN 2001 ... Belitz was sent to AAA Colorado Springs after being acquired from Oakland on July 25...recalled from AAA on Aug. 19 but did not appear in a game and was optioned back to AAA on Aug. 24...recalled Sept. 4 and spent the rest of the season with the big league club.
- Appeared in eight games with the Rockies after his Sept. 4 call up.
- Made his Rockies debut and received his first major league loss in an extra-inning affair on Sept. 9 vs San Francisco...after a near-perfect 10th inning, where he retired both Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent, Beltiz gave up two home runs in the top of the 11th, including Bonds' 63rd...Belitz allowed five runs overall and walked a career-high three batters in 1.1 innings.
- Recorded his first major league win on Sept. 27 vs San Diego...Belitz held the Padres to just one hit in his longest appearance of his career (2.0 ip) during a wild game which saw the Rockies overcome an eight-run deficit, tying a franchise record for the largest comeback victory...it was also the second largest comeback in the major leagues in 2001.
- Lefties hit just .154 against Belitz in 2001 (2-for-13)...both hits were home runs by Barry Bonds and J.T. Snow on Sept. 9...after retiring only one of three lefties that day, Todd retired his final 10 LHB.
- Retired seven of the eight first batters he faced in relief appearances, as first batters hit .125 vs Todd.
- He inherited six runners on the year, none scored.
- Overall, opponent hitters were 9-for-36 (.250) vs Belitz.
THE UNLUCKY THREES ... Todd's short stint with the Rockies seemed to be characterized by two strong outings and then one tough one coming every third appearance.
- Gave up five runs in his first appearance and then pitched two straight games (1.2 ip) without giving up a hit.
- His fourth appearance was again a rough outing, giving up two hits and two earned runs in just a third of an inning vs SD on Sept. 24.
- Then posted a career-best 4.0-inning scoreless streak, from Sept. 26 until the first out on Oct. 2...came in with the bases-loaded on the 26th with one out in the seventh inning and the Rox trailing by just two...Todd retired both batters to strand all three runners and get the Rockies out of the jam...recorded his first major league win on the 27th.
- Then gave up three hits and a run in 1.0 innings of work in his seventh appearance on Oct. 2 at Arizona.
AT COORS FIELD ... At Coors Field he was 1-1 with a 9.45 ERA
(6.2 ip, 7 er).
ON THE ROAD ... On the road, he was 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA (2.2
ip, 1 er).
WITH THE BAT ... Belitz made his first and only major league at-bat on Sept. 24 vs San Diego...he struck out swinging.
AT COLORADO SPRINGS ... Belitz pitched in 14 games with the AAA Sky Sox...was 0-2 with a 9.82 ERA and two saves.
AT SACRAMENTO ... Belitz was 4-2 with a 5.13 ERA in 38 games (no starts) with Oakland's AAA affiliate, Sacramento...he struck out 54 while walking just 16 in 52.2 innings.
MINOR LEAGUE TOTALS ... Combined minor league totals for Belitz in 2001: 4-4 with a 5.94 ERA in 52 games (63.2 ip, 42 earned runs) with two saves.
2000
Was a September call-up for Oakland as he was recalled from Sacramento on September 2 ... made his major league debut on September 4 at Toronto ... walked the only two batters he faced (Martinez and Delgado) on eight pitches ... ended up appearing in five games with the A's and had no decisions and a 2.70 ERA ... did not allow a run in three of his five outings ... allowed his only two inherited runners to score ... spent the first five months of the season at the Triple-A level and was a combined 1-2 with three saves and a 3.94 ERA in 55 relief appearances for Durham and Sacramento ... was 1-1 with a save and a 3.83 ERA in 43 relief appearances with the Bulls ... allowed three runs in 0.1 innings in his first outing of the year but then allowed just one earned run in his next 10 outings (11.2 ip, 0.77 ERA) ... capped the streak with his only win of the season on May 3 at Ottawa ... gave up 10 runs over his next nine games (9 er in 13.2 ip, 5.93 ERA), but then posted a 1.04 ERA (2 er in 17.1 ip) over his next 15 outings from May 23 to June 30 ... allowed just one home run in 47.0 innings at Durham and held opponents to a .200 (33 for 165) batting average ... including .185 (12 for 65) against left handers ... assigned to Sacramento following the trade and made 12 relief appearances before he was brought up to Oakland ... had one loss, one save and a 4.38 ERA ... allowed a .267 (12 for 45) opponents batting average with Sacramento for an overall mark of .214 (45 for 210) ... lefties however were 8 for 16 (.500) off him at Sacramento and he allowed two home runs in 12.1 innings ... longest outing of the season was 2.1 innings on May 27 against Charlotte and he tossed 1.0 innings or fewer in 38 of his 55 outings.
