Globe Life Field Q&A Recap
National Safety Week
National Safety Week concluded on Friday with a celebration of safety at the Globe Life Field construction site.
All week, projects across the country took time to celebrate the important of safety practices on construction sites. Manhattan Construction offered a different safety demonstration every morning.
"We've done a variety of activities, I think it's been pretty educational, I think it's been fun also," Manhattan Construction Senior Safety Manager Jeff Knipper said.
The Heart of the Ballpark - Jim Cuddihee
26 years ago, Oklahoma State University student Jim Cuddihee had a decision, come to Arlington to work on a new ballpark, to be known as The Ballpark in Arlington, or stay closer to college and work on a hospital in Oklahoma City.
"I walk out in the [construction] field every day and kick myself because they offered me to work on the ballpark or stay in Oklahoma," Cuddihee, now Vice President of Operations for Manhattan Construction, said.
Then an intern, Cuddihee decided to stay in Oklahoma and miss the chance to work on his first large-scale construction project. Today, he is back near the site where he could've started his career, this time helping lead the efforts at the new home for the Texas Rangers, Globe Life Field.
It Starts with a Sticky Note
Less than a mile away from the ballpark sits several temporary buildings that form the home of the Globe Life Field construction team. Through the door of the main office is a countdown clock reading 682 days and ticking down by the second.
"Puts a little pressure on us," Jim Cuddihee, Manhattan Vice President of Operations, said indicating the countdown clock.
A process that helps ease the nerves of the countdown clock covers a conference room wall, on dozens of multi-colored sticky notes, called "pull planning".
Lockhart Smokehouse Ready for Texas Live! Opening
When the $250 million dollar world-class Texas Live! complex opens later this year, Rangers fans will have several great dining and entertainment options, including Dallas based Lockhart Smokehouse.
Work is rapidly progressing on the 200,000 square feet entertainment venue in the heart of Arlington's Entertainment District. Brick has been placed, windows have been installed and exterior work is nearing completion. Interior finishes will become the focus in the coming weeks.
Lockhart Smokehouse will sit on the first floor of the $250 million dollar entertainment area, with a scenic view of the Rangers future home, Globe Life Field.
Building a Foundation
The steps are precise, the moves are clean and the progress is moving at triple the speed, seemingly dancing along to a beat.
There isn't any music, though the stammering of drills and steady rusting of steel seems to play to a beat. This dance is all part of a master planned choreography. This dance is on a 13-acre site, the future home of Globe Life Field.
Executive Vice President of Business Operations Rob Matwick knows the dance. He watches the perfectly timed choreography at the construction site just yards away from the roof of Globe Life Park.
The Heart of the Park - Jack Hill
When players who've worked their way through the minor league system get the call up to the big leagues, it's an unforgettable moment. The call-up to the majors isn't limited to the players on the field, but just as memorable of a moment for Texas Rangers Senior Vice President of Project Development, Jack Hill.
In 1991 Hill was working as a general contractor on projects throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, ranging from car dealerships to mid-size office parks.
