Rosales re-ups with Rangers with one-year deal

Infielder gives club utility option; Poreda, Snyder invited to big league camp

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have signed infielder Adam Rosales, who was eligible for arbitration, to a one-year, $750,000 contract for 2014.

Rosales gives the Rangers a utility player candidate in case they trade one of their middle infielders. General manager Jon Daniels admitted earlier this offseason that the Rangers are open to talking about shortstop Elvis Andrus, second baseman Ian Kinsler or utility man Jurickson Profar in possible trade discussions.

Rosales was with both the Rangers and Athletics last season, hitting .190 with five doubles, five home runs, 12 RBIs and 15 runs scored in 68 games and 147 at-bats. He was claimed on waivers by the Rangers for the second time in an 11-day span on Aug. 12 and spent the rest of the year in Texas. Rosales was designated for assignment four times in a span of 34 days from July 8-Aug. 10, three times by Oakland and once by the Rangers.

Rosales has a career .219 average in 319 Major League games with Cincinnati (2008-09), Oakland (2010-13), and Texas (2013). He has made at least 18 starts at all four infield positions in his big league career, and also has eight games in left field.

The Rangers also announced they have signed pitcher Aaron Poreda and outfielder Brad Snyder to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training.

Poreda, 27, missed the 2013 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He last pitched with Double-A Altoona in the Pittsburgh organization in 2012, going 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts. He was the 25th overall pick by the White Sox in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft and is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA over 14 relief appearances at the Major League level with the White Sox and Padres.

Snyder, 31, batted .311 (128-411) with 12 home runs and 60 RBIs in 116 games with Triple-A Reno in the D-backs organization last season. He has also played with the Astros, Cubs and Indians. He hit .167 (6-for-36) with five RBIs in 20 career games at the Major League level with the Cubs in 2010-11. He was originally selected by the Indians as the 18th overall pick of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft and is currently playing with Oriente in the Dominican Winter League.
