DETROIT -- Rangers right fielder Brandon Nimmo had a walk and two singles to score twice in the first four innings, but he left Friday night’s 5-4 win after his second hit with right hamstring tightness.
He’d exited the Rangers’ last game Wednesday in Arlington with the same injury, though he was back in the starting lineup Friday night without missing a start.
“He felt it a little bit in the [last] at-bat,” Texas manager Skip Schumaker said. “I saw him shaking his leg, and so I ran out there and just kind of asked what the deal was.
“He said, ‘I can play.’ Like, shocker. He would. But I didn’t feel it was worth it, with the weather how it was [48 degrees at game time and drizzling]. I didn’t want to push him. He said he’s OK, but I haven’t seen him postgame yet.”
Second baseman Ezequiel Duran replaced Nimmo in right field -- where he ended up making a spectacular diving catch on the warning track to rob Kerry Carpenter in the seventh inning -- and Josh Smith came in to play second after also pinch-running for Nimmo.
