Daniels awaits word on possible suspension

ARLINGTON -- General manager Jon Daniels said he had not heard from Major League Baseball regarding the Biogenesis case involving Nelson Cruz.

Daniels said he did not expect to hear anything from MLB until a decision had been reached on a possible suspension. Cruz was linked to the Miami-based anti-aging company in a Miami New Times report in January. ESPN reported that MLB planned to suspend about 20 players involved with the company, including Cruz, for performance-enhancing drugs.

"I hate to say it; more often than not those reports have been accurate, but I hope it's not this time," Daniels said. "Hopefully we don't lose him and he doesn't have to deal with that. When it comes to pass, we'll address that."

Daniels said the Rangers did not have a "special" plan if Cruz received a suspension. Mike Olt has played exclusively at third base in the Minors since he returned with blurred vision. Daniels said Olt would not be an immediate possibility in the outfield, but he could be at some point.
