Texas Ranger roster moves for March 26

Surprise, Arizona-The Texas Rangers made the following roster moves today:

--Received INF Donnie Murphy on a waiver claim from the Chicago Cubs.

--Received RHP Seth Rosin (row-ZEEN) on a waiver claim from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

--Placed RHP Tommy Hanson on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

--Placed OF Engel Beltre on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right tibia.

Murphy, 31, has appeared in 290 major league games across 8 seasons with Kansas City, Oakland, Miami, and the Chicago Cubs. He spent the majority of the 2013 campaign with Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs organization, batting .265 (80-302) with 18 doubles, 2 triples, 12 home runs, 41 RBI, and 27 walks. The right-handed batter and thrower was promoted to the majors on August 3 and hit .255 (38-149) with a career-best 11 home runs in 46 games with the Cubs. He batted .200 (8-40) with 2 doubles, a home run, and 2 RBI in 14 games with the Cubs this spring. He has appeared defensively at second, third, and shortstop in his major league career.

Rosin, 25, went 9-6 with a 4.33 ERA (61 ER/126.2 IP) over 26 games/23 starts with Double-A Reading in the Philadelphia Phillies organization in 2013. The right-hander was selected by the New York Mets in the Major League phase of the MLB Rule 5 draft on December 12, 2013 and was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on the same date. The right-hander must remain on the Rangers' regular season major league roster for all of 2014 or be offered back to Philadelphia after going through the waiver process.

Rosin had no record and a 1.64 ERA (2 ER/11.0 IP) with 12 strikeouts against 2 walks over 4 relief appearances in 'A' games with the Dodgers this spring. Rosin was a member of the Dodgers 25-man roster for Opening Day in Sydney, Australia, but did not appear in either game.

Murphy and Rosin are expected to join the club on Thursday in Arlington.

Hansen was signed as a free agent on February 14 after pitching for the Los Angeles Angels in 2013.

With today's moves, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on their major league roster. Texas has 40 players remaining in camp including pitchers Derek Holland and Joseph Ortiz and Engel Beltre, who are all on the 60-day DL.
