It was a packed house at Progressive Field for American League Division Series Game 5 on Saturday night as the home fans came out to see the Guardians earn a trip to the American League Championship Series with a 2-0 win over the White Sox. That included two very recognizable fans.
Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl-winning tight end Travis Kelce and Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell were spotted in the crowd, cheering on the Guardians.
Kelce’s presence at such a big game is no surprise. The Cleveland Heights native grew up going to Guardians games. And in May of this year, Kelce became a minority owner of his favorite MLB team. The winner-take-all game came at a good time for the 14-year NFL veteran, as the Chiefs are on their bye week.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was rocking a José Ramírez jersey for the matchup. He was surely stoked when the Guardians’ franchise player homered off a very low pitch to put Cleveland up 2-0 in the fourth inning and send the stadium into a frenzy. Mitchell is a New York native, but he has spent the past four seasons playing for the Cavaliers and guided the club to the NBA playoffs each year.
It’s unclear if Kelce's wife, pop superstar Taylor Swift, was at the game. But there’s a chance we might see the couple take in some ALCS action vs. the Rays at Progressive Field. They have done it before.
