KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Royals announced Thursday that they have signed right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin to a Major League contract for 2026 with a club option for 2027. He has been placed on the 15-day injured list as he continues to recover from right elbow surgery he underwent in August 2025.
To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Eli Morgan has been designated for assignment.
Gonsolin, 32, is 37-13 with a 3.34 ERA in 86 career appearances (78 starts) across six seasons with the Dodgers from 2019-23 and 2025 after missing all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery. His .740 win percentage since the start of the 2019 campaign is the highest by any pitcher in the Majors (min. 75 starts), while his 53 home runs allowed during that same stretch are tied with Shane Baz and Drew Rasmussen for the 10th fewest in Major League Baseball among pitchers who have made at least 75 starts during that span.
He was an All-Star in 2022 with the Dodgers, going 16-1 in 24 starts with a 2.14 ERA, which was the 2nd-lowest mark in the Majors (min. 20 starts), behind only Justin Verlander (1.75), while he finished tied for 3rd in the National League in wins that season. It was the lowest single-season ERA by a Dodgers pitcher (min. 20 starts) since Clayton Kershaw (1.69) in 2016 and the lowest by a right hander since Zack Greinke (1.66) in 2015.
Gonsolin won a World Series title with the Dodgers in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, appearing in 4 games (3 starts) that postseason, including 2 starts in the World Series vs. Tampa Bay.
He was selected by the Dodgers in the 9th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Saint Mary’s College (Calif.) and made his Major League debut with Los Angeles on June 26, 2019, at Arizona.
