ANAHEIM -- The Angels agreed to terms with third-round Draft pick David Calabrese on Thursday for $744,200, the full slot value of the No. 82 overall pick, according to MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis. The Halos officially announced the deal on Tuesday.

Calabrese, an outfielder from St. Elizabeth Catholic High School (Maple, Ontario, Canada), is the third of the Angels’ four selections in the 2020 Draft to agree to terms, joining first-rounder Reid Detmers and fifth-rounder Adam Seminaris. Detmers signed for $4,670,000 (slot value of $4,739,900), while Seminaris signed for $140,000 (slot value of $390,400).

The Angels love toolsy up-the-middle position players, and Calabrese fits the bill, although he’s built more for speed and contact than power at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds. But the left-handed-hitting Calabrese, who was an Arkansas commit, is already considered a solid defender and could grow into more power as he matures.

The Angels have a plethora of talented outfielders in their system, such as Jo Adell, Brandon Marsh, Jeremiah Jackson, Jordyn Adams and D’Shawn Knowles, and Calabrese is the type of player the organization clearly covets. He’s also only 17, which gives him even more upside.
