DENVER – Rockies third baseman Kyle Karros left Saturday night’s 4-3 loss to the Guardians before the sixth inning with the recurrence of concussion symptoms.
Karros, 24, originally sustained the injury in a collision with shortstop Ezequiel Tovar while both were going for a ground ball on Aug. 11 at Arizona. Karros returned from the seven-day concussion injured list to the Rockies’ lineup on Friday night and went 1-for-4 with a walk in the 9-1 loss to the Guardians.
On Saturday, Karros was 0-for-2 with a ground out and a strikeout. The Rockies removed him as a precaution, and before Sunday's series finale, they placed him back on the seven-day concussion injured list. In corresponding moves, infielder Ryan Ritter was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque and utilityman Tyler Freeman (lumbar pain) was activated off of the 10-day injured list and he was optioned to Albuquerque.
Karros, who debuted last August and is in his first full Major League season, is batting .263 with a .779 OPS, 10 home runs and 44 RBIs.
During the time Karros was on the concussion IL, the Rockies called up switch-hitting Adael Amador, 23, who went 3-for-10 with a home run, a double, six RBIs, three walks and five strikeouts in five appearances before returning to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
