PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies closer Jhoan Duran is back.
The Phils activated Duran from the 15-day injured list before Tuesday night’s 9-1 victory over the A’s at Citizens Bank Park. To make room on the 26-man roster, the Phillies traded right-hander Trevor Richards to the White Sox for cash considerations.
Duran had not pitched since April 11 because of a strained left oblique. It showed. He allowed one hit, one run and three walks in the ninth inning. It was the second time in his career that he walked three batters in a game.
“Rusty,” Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly said.
Mattingly indicated on Sunday that Duran would not go on a rehab assignment. Tuesday’s effort served as one in a sense.
Duran was 1-1 with a 1.35 ERA and five saves in seven appearances before the injury.
