ANGELS SIGN INF YOÁN MONCADA

ANAHEIM – The Angels today agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with INF Yoán Moncada. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, RHP Cody Laweryson has been designated for assignment.

Moncada, 30, returns to the Angels after batting .234 (58/248) with 39 runs scored, 13 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 35 RBI and a .783 OPS in 84 games for the Halos in 2025. Moncada batted .275 (14/51) with 25 RBI and a .940 OPS with runners in scoring position last season, and batted .345 (19/55) with a 1.006 OPS in high-leverage situations. His .257 (35/136) batting average and .855 OPS at Angel Stadium also ranked second on the Halos in 2025 (min. 150 PA). Moncada slashed .250/.354/.444 across his last 40 games in August and September to finish the 2025 campaign.

A native of Cienfuegos, Cuba, Moncada was originally signed by Boston as an international free agent on March 12, 2015. He made his Major League debut with the Red Sox on Sept. 2, 2016 at Oakland. On Dec. 6, 2016, Moncada was traded to the White Sox with OF Luis Alexander Basabe, RHP Victor Díaz, and RHP Michael Kopech for LHP Chris Sale. The switch-hitter previously signed a one-year deal with the Angels on Feb. 15, 2025. In 831 career regular season games, he has compiled a .252 (769/3046) career average with 170 doubles, 22 triples, 105 home runs and 374 RBI across 10 seasons with the Red Sox (2016), White Sox (2017-2024) and Angels (2025).
