Angels sign RHP Noah Syndergaard

ANAHEIM – The Angels today have agreed to terms on a one-year, $21 million contract with RHP Noah Syndergaard.

Syndergaard, 29, owns a 47-31 career record with a 3.32 ERA (718 IP – 265 ER) and 777 strikeouts across 121 games with the New York Mets. He made his Major League debut in 2015 and was selected to the National League All-Star team in 2016.

Since his debut in 2015, Syndergaard leads Major League starters with an average fastball velocity of 97.6 MPH and also leads all MLB pitchers with an average of 0.80 HR allowed per nine innings (min. 700 IP). Additionally, his 9.74 strikeouts per nine innings rate ranks eighth in the National League in that span.

A native of Mansfield, TX, Syndergaard was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the first round (38th overall) of the 2010 Draft out of Legacy HS(Mansfield, TX). He was acquired by the Mets on Dec. 17, 2012 as part of the deal which brought R.A. Dickey to Toronto.
