Jordan Lawlar is due to play at least a few more games with Double-A Amarillo as he continues his rehab assignment. But the 2021 first-round Draft pick sure is swinging the bat like he’s ready to return to the Majors.
The D-backs center fielder, sidelined since mid-June with a right hamstring injury, launched a pair of home runs on Friday night. He’s now homered in three consecutive games with the Sod Poodles.
In his first at-bat of Friday’s game against Midland, Lawlar drove a center-cut fastball out beyond the right-center field fence at Hodgetown Stadium. Then, in the third inning, he pounced on a hanging breaking ball, ripping it over the left-field wall for his second blast of the night.
Lawlar’s homer binge is coming at an opportune time, too, after he went 3-for-19 across the first five games of his rehab assignment.
The 24-year-old impressed in limited playing time with Arizona earlier this season, hitting .316 with an .856 OPS in 12 games. But in addition to the hamstring injury, Lawlar also missed more than two months after suffering a right wrist fracture in the D-backs’ seventh game of 2026.
Lawlar began his season by making a successful transition to the outfield this spring. That’s especially important now, with his return near. Arizona’s center fielders have combined for a .609 OPS that ranks as the second worst in the Majors this season.
