If Kevin Gausman had his way, we’d all be screaming for ice cream.
The Blue Jays right-hander told the Toronto Star (subscription required) that he would add “maybe like 200 more ice cream trucks” to the city of Toronto if he were elected mayor.
To be clear, Gausman isn’t running for mayor. His response was simply a part of a larger piece where the Star asked a dozen notable Toronto figures what they’d do if they were mayor.
Gausman’s sweet tooth shouldn’t come as a surprise. The 35-year-old is an outspoken foodie, enjoying everything from cinnamon rolls to Hostess powdered donuts, which he used to eat before every start. He’s also well familiar with the vibrant Toronto food scene, this being the fifth year of a five-year, $110 million contract that he signed with the Blue Jays ahead of the 2022 season.
On the field, Gausman is off to a rather dominant start, pitching to a 2.54 ERA with 35 strikeouts through his first five starts.
