NEW YORK -- returned to the mound Thursday for his ninth start of the season against the Tigers, carrying a 1-2 record and a 2.78 ERA into the game at Citi Field. Looking for his first win since April 3, he tossed seven innings of three-run ball, striking out seven and allowing six hits and three walks.

Last start: McLean gave the Mets his best performance in nearly a month last time out in Arizona, holding the Diamondbacks to one run over six innings. He struck out six and threw 100 pitches, making it his most efficient outing in weeks.

What he said: “My job is to get as deep into the game as I can every time I go out, and I was disappointed in myself [my previous start] against the Angels. It was pretty important to me today.”
